Taylor Swift Announces New Single, '1989' Album

Taylor Swift gave fans some good news this week in the form of new single "Shake It Off," an upbeat, pure pop track.

The singer revealed the news Monday afternoon during her much-hyped Yahoo! Live event., when she played the song for the first time. She also revealed she's ready to release her new album, 1989, inspired by the year she was born and other '80s music.

Swift said it's her first "official" pop album. It will be released on Oct. 27 via Big Machine Records. It is available now for pre-order.

She had previously provided few details regarding the Yahoo! event, despite a cheeky appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, in which she didn't deny Fallon's suggestions of a new album. She also took the opportunity to reveal she will perform at the MTV VMAs this Sunday night.

As Billboard had previously pointed out, Swift has been rather consistent about releasing a new album every other year since 2006, all of which have been released around late October to early November.

Swift's last album, Red, was released Oct. 22, 2012.
