Supreme Court Rules Gay Marriage Legal: The Reaction

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that state bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional, which is an history victory for gay rights advocates.

Friday's 5-4 ruling comes as a majority of America (60 percent) now supports gay marriage. And according to the justices, under the 14th Amendment, states should issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and also recognize the marriages across state borders.

The decision was one of the Supreme Court's final rulings of the current session, which ends next week. It also arrives ahead of Pride Week in cities like New York, Seattle and San Francisco.
