After spending much of last year promoting Broken Bells' album After the Disco, it seems James Mercer is ready to focus on The Shins again.

According to a holiday email sent from the band on Wednesday, they are promising, "New year, new music" in 2016.

While details are few, the revelation comes as the band has been teasing photos of themselves in the studio, suggesting they've been hard at work on their next album, the followup to their last full-length, 2012's Port of Morrow, which was released nearly four years ago this March.

They've remained rather quiet for the past two years outside of a contribution to the soundtrack for Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here.
