After touring extensively behind their 2013 album Mechanical Bull, Kings of Leon have been in the studio working on their seventh studio full-length with hopes of completing it in 2016.

"We've already started pre-production in our studio for the next record," drummer Nathan Followill told The Associated Press in a new interview published Wednesday. "But the main thing on the calendar for 2016 is getting the record finished."

Singer-guitarist Caleb Followill also said the band is "all in a good place … and we're all excited to do something new," noting that they're planning to record in Los Angeles (where they recorded their first two records), instead of in Nashville, where they recorded most of their recent material.

They had suggested this past summer they were hoping to have the new album written by the end of 2015.
