Update: As of just before 12 p.m. CST, TMZ is reporting Prince, 57, has died.

Authorities responded Thursday morning around 9:45 a.m. CST (local time) to a medical emergency at Prince's Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

TMZ first reported the Carver County Sheriff's Department is investigating a death at the singer's estate, although an identity was not immediately confirmed.

As we previously reported, Prince was hospitalized briefly last week for what his reps described as an ongoing bout with the flu. He was released and back home in less than 24 hours.

Some local news affiliates reported the deceased individual as a "middle aged man."

A rep for Prince has subsequently confirmed to Variance the singer died at his home in suburban Minneapolis.

The official statement from Prince's publicist: "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time."

While a cause of death was not immediately confirmed and an autopsy and toxicology report is underway, TMZ reported later on Thursday that Prince's emergency plane landing and treatment last week may have been related to a drug overdose and not fly symptoms as his team claimed.

Prince's rep has not commented on TMZ's latest report.
