Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) says he "always wanted to make Twin Peaks with rappers," something he's essentially done with his upcoming FX comedy Atlanta.
Speaking Saturday at the network's Television Critics Association winter press tour, the actor-rapper acknowledged he had received offers for other projects since leaving NBC's Community in 2013, but he "knew they weren't me."
As we previously reported, Atlanta—which centers around two cousins trying to make it in the rap scene—has nabbed a 10-episode order and is set to premiere this summer on FX after being in development for more than two years.
Calling it the "perfect time" to launch such a series due to television's multi-platform evolution, Glover (who's a former 30 Rock writer) also revealed the show is embracing non-traditional writing process, explaining that instead of having a writer's room, everyone just meets at his house and eats together while brainstorming.
